February 05, (THEWILL) – The African Nations Championship (CHAN) closing ceremony was a showcase of fantastic African music, as top musicians, L’Algerino, Ckay, and Zaho entertained fans before the final match between Algeria and Senegal.
The artists raised the temperature of the Nelson Mandela Stadium with their performances that effortlessly linked the game with entertainment.
The show opened with Cobtan, the official mascot of the competition, taking to the stage and exciting the crowd with his moves in the rhythm of Maghreb United. This was followed by a solemn moment as the presidential band was paraded on the pitch and played the Algerian national anthem, “Kassaman”. The stadium sang in unison, with the crowd going up a notch during the last two verses.
L’Algérino, born in Marseille, declared his love for the land of his ancestors with his song “Algérie mi amor”. Nigerian hit artist, Ckay brought Afrobeat to the party with his biggest hit, “Emiliana”. Finally, Zaho, dressed in a beautiful pink outfit, performed a series of vocals and closed the ceremony with her global hit, “Laissez-les khouma”.
The last fireworks went up before the start of the final match, and Zaho offered some words of encouragement to the Algerian national team.
