October 29, (THEWILL) – Honda and Alpine have been fined a combined £1 million by Formula One’s governing body, FIA, for breaching procedural requirements in the 2023 engine manufacturer cost cap regulations.
Honda, currently supplying engines to Red Bull and moving to Aston Martin in 2026, received a £600,000 penalty, while Alpine was fined £400,000. The FIA confirmed that while both manufacturers failed to meet proper documentation procedures, neither exceeded the £140.4 million spending limit.
Both manufacturers accepted their penalties through Accepted Breach Agreements (ABA). The FIA reported that Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) submitted inaccurate documentation, while Alpine Racing SAS omitted key information from their submissions. The governing body noted that Alpine had either partially completed or entirely missed several required procedures.
The penalties come at a significant time for both manufacturers. Honda plans to shift its partnership from Red Bull to Aston Martin in 2026, marking a major change in Formula One engine supply arrangements. Meanwhile, Renault announced it would stop Formula One engine production after the 2025 season, with Alpine expected to switch to Mercedes power units from 2026.
