NBBF

March 09, (THEWILL) – The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has acknowledged the Nigeria Basketball Federation’s (NBBF) Elective Congress, which took place in Benin City on January 31, 2022.

The letter of acknowledgment, sent to Musa Kida, certified receipt of the results of the Elective Congress in Benin City, when Kida and others were re-elected to the NBBF Board for a new four-year term.

In part, the letter stated: “FIBA acknowledges the results of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Elective Congress held on January 31, 2022. Accordingly, FIBA takes note of the election of the following persons to the NBBF board for the following four years.

“President: Musa Kida, Vice President: Babs Ogunade: North-central Rep. Deishi Adamu, North-east Rep. Abba Kaka, North-west Rep. Surajo Yusuf, South-east Rep. Ugo Udezue, South-south Rep. Ahamaudu Kida, South-west Rep. Olumide Oyedeji.”

In a March 7 letter congratulating the newly elected members, FIBA asked for the names of those who would be appointed to replace the board’s vacancies.

It is unclear whether the FIBA letter will effectively end the NBBF’s crisis, which predated the elections and have lingered on since January after all efforts made to see that the elections brought an end to the in-fighting and leadership tussle.

THEWILL recalls that a competing board, elected on the same day in parallel votes in Abuja that saw Mark Igoche voted as NBBF president, is also vying for control of the country’s basketball programme and have taken a stubborn posture since.
