June 24, (THEWILL) – The possibility of Kylian Mbappe’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain has taken a significant step forward, as the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has outlined his conditions to leave the club this summer.
While PSG would typically strive to retain their star player, Mbappe’s public declaration that he will not extend his contract beyond 2024 has left the French champions eager to capitalise on his immense value. Although there is one year remaining on his current deal, Mbappe still held the power to activate a one-year extension clause.
However, his refusal to commit long-term puts PSG at risk of losing their prized asset without compensation. Despite rumours suggesting Mbappe is attempting to engineer a move to Real Madrid, the player himself has dismissed these claims, stating his lack of desire to leave the French capital.
Mbappe stands to earn a staggering $165 million in his final year at PSG, comprising a net salary of £52 million and a loyalty bonus of £78 million. Unwilling to forgo such significant financial benefits, the player’s demands present a substantial hurdle for any potential transfer.
Furthermore, the possibility of a signing-on fee from Real Madrid, the reported interested party, remains uncertain given the financial constraints they would face if they were to acquire Mbappe this summer and they would rather be patient until he becomes a free agent next year. Consequently, PSG may be compelled to lower their £172 million (just over $218 million) valuation of the player to facilitate a transfer while also reducing their financial burden.
