November 13, (THEWILL) – At the San Siro on Sunday, AC Milan defeated Fiorentina 2-1, thanks to a late own goal by Nikola Milenkovic, cutting into Napoli’s lead at the top of Serie A.
After only two minutes, Rafael Leao scored to give the hosts the lead. However, Fiorentina fought back fiercely, and Antonin Barak’s deflected shot gave them the equaliser just before the half-hour mark.
It looked like Milan would have to settle for a share of the points, which would have put them 10 points behind Napoli, but an incredible finish kept the hosts in the game.
Fiorentina’s requests for VAR to step in were ignored as Milenkovic cruelly denied them a share of the spoils when he deflected the ball into his own net to hand the advantage to Milan.
The next Serie A match for Milan is not until January 4 when they go to Salernitana, while Fiorentina hosts Monza on the same day.
