May 18, (THEWILL) – Nigeria will play Benin in the WAFU B U20 Championship final on Friday, after both teams qualified for the Total Energies U20 Africa Cup of Nations with victories in the competition’s semi-finals in Niger on Tuesday.
The Flying Eagles qualified for the final with a 2-1 extra-time win over Cote d’Ivoire, while Benin beat Burkina Faso 2-1 in the first game of the day at the Seyni Kountche Stadium in Niger.
Ladan Bosso’s Flying Eagles showed their established defensive discipline, and the Ivorians could not unlock the Nigerian defence until the final whistle. Nigeria’s Daniel Daga, who scored the early lead goal, was named Man of the Match.
In the other semi-final, Malick Yongui and Djalilou Ibrahim of Benin scored two quick goals before Nagoro Dao gave the Burkinabe some hope, but it was too late to save the match.
