November 04, (THEWILL) — A Premier League footballer was threatened with a firearm by a football agent in London during an incident on Saturday, September 6, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.
Officers received a call at 23:14 on that date reporting that a man in his twenties had been threatened with a firearm. During their investigation, police discovered that another man in his twenties had also allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual. Neither victim sustained injuries in either incident. The player’s club has been informed of the events.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday, September 8, on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence. He has been released on bail whilst enquiries continue, the Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement.
The agent, whose identity has not been disclosed, remains under investigation following the allegations. Police are continuing to gather evidence relating to both incidents. Authorities are treating the matter with urgency, given the nature of the alleged offences.
