April 29, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest’s hopes of avoiding relegation from the English Premier League suffered a major blow after a contentious VAR decision saw them slip to a 2-1 defeat at Brentford.

Ivan Toney appeared to be offside when Josh Dasilva scored Brentford’s winning goal in stoppage time. However, after a long VAR check, the goal was given, leaving Forest boss Steve Cooper to lament the decision.

“If it’s onside, we have to accept it. But we have to wait and see the image they made the call from. I really hope at this stage of the season, they didn’t make a call based on assumption,” said Cooper.

Despite taking the lead through Danilo’s first-half stoppage-time strike, Forest were pegged back by Toney’s free kick before Dasilva’s late winner. The defeat leaves Forest rooted in the relegation scuffle, seven points from safety with just four games remaining.
