December 11, (THEWILL) — Nottingham Forest grabbed a crucial victory against Utrecht in their UEFA Europa League clash, with Igor Jesus netting the winner moments after entering the match. The late strike lifted Forest to eighth position in the competition standings and strengthened their chances of advancing automatically to the next round.
Forest dominated the opening exchanges at Utrecht’s ground, with Callum Hudson-Odoi testing goalkeeper, Vasilios Barkas, twice in the first seven minutes. Oleksandr Zinchenko squandered a close-range opportunity, whilst Morato saw his attempt blocked on the line before Douglas Luiz forced another save from the home custodian. The match appeared destined for a stalemate until substitute, Dan Ndoye, headed goalwards in the closing stages. Barkas could only parry the ball into the danger zone, where Jesus reacted quickest to slot the rebound between the keeper’s legs and complete the turnaround.
The three points moved Forest closer to securing a top-eight finish, which would guarantee progression to the next stages without requiring a play-off round.
