June 02, (THEWILL) – World number one, Iga Swiatek, powered into the quarter-finals of the French Open with a ruthless 6-0 6-0 demolition of Anastasia Potapova on Sunday. The 23-year-old Polish star needed just 40 minutes to dispatch the overmatched Russian at Roland Garros.
Swiatek gave Potapova, playing the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time, no chance to get a foothold. The top seed’s pinpoint groundstrokes kept Potapova pinned behind the baseline as Swiatek raced through the first set in 19 minutes.
Despite encouragement from the crowd, Potapova had no answers for Swiatek’s precision. A couple of attempted serve-returns were the Russian’s only brief highlights as unforced errors flowed from her racket. The swirling wind was the sole issue for the supremely focused Swiatek.
Showing no mercy, Swiatek continued the onslaught in the second set. Potapova could find no chinks in the Polish juggernaut’s armour before swiftly departing court after being swept aside in under an hour.
Swiatek marches on to face either 5th seed Marketa Vondrousova or Serbian qualifier Olga Danilovic in her fifth consecutive French Open quarter-final.
