
December 29, (THEWILL) — Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has recorded another major milestone as her latest cinema release, ‘Behind The Scenes’, has crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office.
The film has grossed ₦1,109,463,846, according to FilmOne Entertainment, which announced the milestone on Monday.
The distributor described the achievement as historic for the West African film industry.
According to FilmOne, the film became the fastest in West Africa to cross ₦1 billion while setting a new record for the highest single-day box office earnings on Boxing Day at ₦129.5 million.
The company said ‘Behind The Scenes’ is currently the highest-grossing film of 2025 and continues to perform strongly in cinemas weeks after its release.
FilmOne also praised Funke Akindele’s box office success, noting that she is the only filmmaker to have crossed ₦1 billion three times.
She is also the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1 billion films in one year.
The film opened in cinemas nationwide on December 12 after advance screenings on December 10 and 11.
It earned ₦512 million within 12 days and crossed ₦200 million shortly after its opening weekend.
Behind The Scenes explores the social and financial pressures of supporting extended family and features a large ensemble cast including Scarlet Gomez, Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and others.
FilmOne thanked fans for their support, describing the success as a win for Nigerian cinema.
