January 12, (THEWILL) — Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has achieved another major box office milestone as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, has grossed over ₦2 billion in ticket sales.
According to FilmOne Entertainment, which made the announcement on Monday, the movie has earned ₦2,103,039,706, making it the first Nollywood film in Africa to cross the ₦2 billion mark.
The achievement also makes Behind The Scenes the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time in Africa, as well as the top-grossing Nigerian movie in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Reacting to the success, Akindele thanked God and her fans for their support.
She described the record as a milestone and credited her success to strong storytelling, respect for the audience, and dedication to her craft.
She wrote, “Records are milestones, not the mission. From A Tribe Called Judah grossing ₦1 billion to Behind The Scenes crossing ₦2 billion and still counting, this is God in motion.
The lesson remains unchanged: serve the story, respect the audience, refine the craft, and let the work earn its applause.”
Funke Akindele now holds three of the top four highest-grossing Nollywood films, with ‘Behind The Scenes’ (2025) grossing ₦2,103,039,706 and still earning, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ (2024) grossing ₦1,882,553,548, and ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ (2023) grossing ₦1,408,227,541.
FilmOne Entertainment also noted that Akindele is the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years, further cementing her status as one of Africa’s most commercially successful filmmakers.
