April 29, (THEWILL) — George Clooney says he is ready to step back from Hollywood as he approaches his 65th birthday, choosing to focus more on philanthropy and personal projects.
Speaking to Page Six at the Chaplin Award Gala in New York on April 27, 2026, George Clooney said he plans to dedicate more time to the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which he co-founded with his wife, Amal Clooney.
“I will be doing things that I find more fulfilling because I’m not chasing a career anymore,” he said.
The Oscar-winning actor added he wants to focus on work that matters more to him.
Clooney also said he will continue supporting the Roybal School of Film and Television Production, which helps create opportunities for underrepresented students in the industry.
Despite the shift, he made clear he is not retiring completely. “You know, if you get a good part, you take it!”
The actor was honoured at the event for his contribution to cinema but admitted he finds such recognition uncomfortable. “I find that to be a little embarrassing,” he said.
Clooney rose to fame on “ER” before building a successful film career, with roles in the “Ocean’s” Trilogy, “Gravity”, “Michael Clayton” “Batman and Robin” (1997) and “The Descendants.”
He married Amal Clooney in 2014, and the couple have twins, Alexander and Ella.
Now, he says his focus is on doing meaningful work while living a more balanced life.
