April 30, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich have overtaken Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga after beating Hertha Berlin 2-0 on Sunday.
The reigning serial champions of the German top-flight football took advantage of Dortmund’s 1-1 draw with Bochum on Friday, to move ahead by one point with four games remaining in the final lap race to the title.
Despite dominating possession, Bayern struggled to break down their relegation-threatened opponents. However, Serge Gnabry finally broke the deadlock in the 69th minute, heading in Joshua Kimmich’s cross. Kingsley Coman sealed the victory 10 minutes later, firing past Hertha goalkeeper, Oliver Christensen.
Bayern, who have scored the most first-half goals in the league this season, will be hoping to maintain their momentum in their next match against Werder Bremen on Saturday. The same day, Hertha will be looking to bounce back when they host VfB Stuttgart at the Olympiastadion Berlin.
