May 03, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Under-17 head coach, Nduka Ugbade, praised his team’s performance despite their 1-0 loss to Morocco in the TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Golden Eaglets fired 27 shots at goal, but only four landed on target. In his post-match comments, Ugbade said: “Everything worked absolutely well. We controlled the game, but tactically Morocco controlled the outcome. We had some few mistakes as well, but we created so many chances, and the only problem is that we couldn’t score.”
The young boys must now win their final group match against South Africa to secure an automatic quarter-final spot. Ugbade said that they must be more efficient with the chances they have and will look for different tactical solutions to impact the game’s outcome.
The coach added that they have a chance, but it could easily fade away, so they have to work hard. Nigeria has not won the U-17 AFCON since their 2007 victory, and Ugbade remains hopeful that they can put their campaign back on track and win a third title.
“We have a chance. If we go to the quarter-finals, everything can change. We believe we can still do it,” he said.
