June 03, (THEWILL) — Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has apologized after her recent comments on the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State sparked widespread outrage.
Alaseyori had earlier urged Nigerians to pray over the country’s security challenges, while also saying the government was taking steps to address insecurity and help the victims.
In a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, the singer said she was sorry if her earlier remarks were misunderstood and insisted she never meant to hurt or dismiss anyone.
Alaseyori said she realized many Nigerians were unhappy with her comments and felt their concerns about the kidnapped victims were not being taken seriously.
“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on the government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she said.
The singer pleaded for forgiveness, especially from mothers and families affected by the incident, saying she would never deliberately disregard their pain.
Her comments sparked reactions online, with some Nigerians saying prayers alone were not enough and calling for stronger action from authorities.
The abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State has continued to draw concern, with calls to rescue the victims and implement stronger measures to curb insecurity across the country.
