June 28, (THEWILL) – National President of Izzi Nnodo Youth Forum, Comrade Ben Nwovu, has given reasons why the entire people of Izzi Nnodo would continue to throw their weights behind the gubernatorial and senatorial aspirations of Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru and Barrister Onyekachi Nwebonyi respectively.
Nwovu, who said that Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, the incumbent Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, has proven his competence as a third term legislator, further stated that Nwebonyi, as a former PDP chairman and commissioner for capital city development, has also made his mark in leadership.
He maintained that the gubernatorial slot zoned to Izzi people was a show of equity and fairness demonstrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, even as he lambasted the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for not toeing similar path.
He said, “We decided to adopt them base on their legacies. Both of them have held so many positions in the state; we all know their capacity and credibility.
“Like the speaker of the house of assembly; he is a third timer in the house of assembly and two term speaker of the state assembly. His antecedents at this point in time made us to understand that he will do well, if he is given the mandate to be the governor of the state.
“That is why we are asking all Ebonyians, not just the people of Izzi, to let them know that he is a candidate to trust to improve the economy and the stability of this state. It is based on their antecedents that we decided to say both of them are the most credible candidates for those positions.
“Barrister Onyekachi Nwebonyi had been a chairman of the opposition PDP in the state. We know how PDP was popular at that point in time. Because one thing is to have a position and the other is know how to make use of it. He made judicious use of the position as the chairman.
“As a chairman and commissioner for capital city development, everybody knew even though that people were crying, that of a truth, he did a very marvelous job in the state. And that is why since he left office, everywhere has been packed up. The state is no longer as clean as it was. With all these antecedents, we feel they are the best to go for this positions.
“We are aware that there are other Izzi sons and daughters vying for other positions. We have equally looked at them and know that these are the best. We are equally aware that no two persons can sit on a particular seat at any point in time. We are still campaigning and we are equally going to ask those people to step down for them.
“The entire Izzis must not be in support of this project. This is because, in every twelve, there must be Judas. The ones that are not in support are very few in number. They are an insignificant few, and that does not mean we are not speaking in one voice; we are one.
“You can see that in divided we fall, but in united we stand. If we begin to divide ourselves among different political parties in Nigeria, it means we are not ready to grab the positions at this point in time. And that is why we have chosen a party that can accommodate everybody.
“You can see after the PDP primaries, nobody from Izzi emerged either as a senate or a governor. This is a position zoned to us by equity. We cannot go to ask other political parties in Nigeria to come and give position to us because there are some positions that doesn’t cross Abakaliki local government area and there are parties that doesn’t cross Ebonyi State.
“We cannot ask people to go and look for hungry party and come to us to divide the positions and that is why we are speaking in one voice. All these mushroom political parties can no longer divide us again. Anybody that wants to make money should go to Abuja and stay there.
“We saw that as the end of PDP in Izzi land. And that was why I summoned a meeting to condemn in its entirety, the activities of PDP in Izzi land. This is the party that produced governors in other zones, but when it got to our turn, they did not give us the opportunity to produce the governor. No Izzi man can proudly say he is a PDP member and that is why we chose the ruling party, which believes that Izzi has competent people for the Senate and Governorship positions”, he reiterated.
