August 15, (THEWILL) – Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury during his side’s opening English Premier League match against Burnley last Friday.
The Belgian playmaker was forced off just 36 minutes into the 3-0 victory at Turf Moor and scans have since confirmed significant damage to his hamstring. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, ahead of City’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla, manager Pep Guardiola stated that De Bruyne could face up to four months out of action.
The injury comes as a major blow to both De Bruyne and City. The midfielder missed a number of games last season with an injury and will now face another extended period in the treatment room. City will also have to cope without one of their most influential players as they aim to defend their English Premier League title this season.
De Bruyne limped off with a similar hamstring problem during City’s UEFA Champions League final victory over Inter Milan back in June. Guardiola confirmed this latest injury saying: “It’s serious. We have to decide surgery or no surgery but he will be out for a few months.” A decision on whether De Bruyne will require surgery is expected to be made over the coming days.
City will be hoping the 32-year-old can make a full recovery and return to action as soon as possible. But, De Bruyne now faces a long road back to fitness and it remains to be seen when he will be available for selection again.
