February 12, (THEWILL) – Pep Guardiola has continued to defend Manchester City amidst recent charges from the English Premier League.
As THEWILL reported last week, the EPL revealed that City had violated over 100 regulations and could face consequences ranging from points deductions to title stripping. In response to the ruling, Guardiola accused other Premier League teams, including Tottenham, of conspiring against his team.
He stated: “I have the feeling that some clubs and people don’t want Manchester City to exist. That’s the reality.” Guardiola also made controversial comments ahead of City’s match against Aston Villa, claiming that any titles taken away from his team would still “belong” to them because “those moments belong to us. They absolutely belong to us, regardless of the sentence they belong to us.”
Guardiola specifically mentioned the famous slip from Steven Gerrard in 2014, stating that it “belongs” to City regardless of any punishment from the Premier League. He said: “I have respect for Steven Gerrard – but that moment belongs to us.” He also referenced Sergio Aguero’s goal against QPR and Mario Balotelli’s slip, asserting that the moments from their championship wins cannot be taken away from the team.
Despite any possible retroactive penalties, Guardiola remains confident in the efforts and achievements of his team, stating: “I know what we won and the way we won it. I know the effort we put in.”
