February 12, (THEWILL) – Southampton Football Club have confirmed that they have parted ways with manager, Nathan Jones, after a poor run of form in the English Premier League.
The club of Super Eagles’ players Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu currently sits at the bottom of the table with only 15 points from 22 games, and their most recent loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers was the final straw for the Southampton board.
A statement from the Saints read: “Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones. First Team Coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club. First Team Lead Coach Ruben Selles will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea.”
Jones had a troubled tenure at Saint Mary’s, losing 9 of his 14 games in charge and only overseeing one EPL win. He was often criticised for his direct style of play and eccentric press conferences, which earned him a reputation as an unpopular figure among the Southampton fans.
With his departure, Jones becomes the eighth manager in Premier League history to lose his job less than 100 days into his role as manager.
