July 1, (THEWILL) – Matteo Guendouzi has officially joined Olympique de Marseille after a fruitful loan period, according to an announcement from Arsenal.
Last season, Guendouzi appeared in 56 games in all competitions, making him practically ubiquitous for OM. The initial loan agreement contained a clause that, if certain requirements were satisfied, would make the transition permanent. On Friday, the transfer was officially announced.
An Arsenal club statement about the move read: “Everyone at Arsenal thanks Matteo for his contribution during his time with us and wish him all the best in this next chapter of his career. The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.”
The agreement was announced on the same day that Marseille fired manager, Jorge Sampaoli, purportedly due to the Argentine’s frustration with the team’s lack of transfer market ambition.
Guendouzi joins Konstantinos Mavrapanos and Alexandre Lacazette as veteran players who have already left Arsenal this transfer window. The Gunners have also been very active with new arrivals. Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, and Marquinhos have already signed contracts with them, and a long-ago agreement will soon ratify Gabriel Jesus as their fourth acquisition.
