April 15, (THEWILL) – Manchester City cruised to a 3-1 victory over Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with Erling Haaland grabbing a brace and matching Mohamed Salah’s record of 32 English Premier League goals in a 38-game season.
John Stones opened the scoring with a stunning left-footed strike, and Haaland added two more before being substituted at halftime. Kelechi Iheanacho pulled one back for the visitors, but City held on for the win.
The hosts dominated the game from the outset, enjoying 93% possession in the opening five minutes. Stones’ goal in the 11th minute set the tone, with Haaland adding to the lead from the penalty spot in the 18th minute and scoring his second in the 30th minute.
Leicester improved in the second half and Iheanacho’s goal gave them hope, but City saw out the victory to reduce Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to three points before they travel to West Ham in the Sunday afternoon fixture. Haaland’s scoring heroics will give City fans hope for further success this season, as they look to secure another EPL title and a first-ever Champions League crown.
Pep Guardiola’s side will now turn their attention to the midweek trip to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, while Leicester will face Wolves next Saturday.
