April 18, (THEWILL) – Manchester City continued their charge towards the top of the Premier League table with an impressive 4-1 win over Southampton on Saturday evening.

Despite a fast start from the hosts, City’s Erling Haaland scored a crucial header towards the end of the first half, adding another shortly after the break. Goals from Jack Grealish and Julian Alvarez sealed the emphatic victory for the visitors.

Southampton had a number of opportunities to take the lead early on, with Kamaldeen Sulemana running nearly two-thirds of the pitch before a heavy touch allowed Ederson to claim possession. Sulemana also struck wide later in the first half, and his missed chances proved costly as Haaland headed home a cross from Kevin De Bruyne to give City the lead just before half-time.

Despite Southampton’s Sekou Mara scoring a goal with 20 minutes to go, it was not enough to overcome City’s lead, as Alvarez added a fourth goal from the penalty spot.

The win puts City in good stead ahead of their upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Bayern on Tuesday, while Southampton will be looking to bounce back against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
