August 17, (THEWILL) –Â Last season’s highest goal scorer in the English Premier League Harry Kane has made his expected return to Tottenham Hotspur and joined his mates for training for the first time since getting back from holiday on Tuesday.
The English striker, who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester City, had caused a stir earlier by failing to report back to Spurs for pre-season along with the rest of the squad, with many thinking he was using his absence to press for a move away from Spurs.
Kane was expected to return from holiday on August 2 and was absent a whole five days after that proposed date of resumption. When the stories of him trying to force a transfer began to spread, he came out to publicly denounce any such intentions by insisting that it was an unplanned delay.
The England captain needed to self-isolate at the club’s on-site hotel after he returned to camp from a trip to the Bahamas. Consequently, he was not named in the squad that defeated City on Sunday, although he was reportedly watching on from the stands.
Kane did some training on his own on Monday before rejoining his teammates on Tuesday morning. He is due to file out with the Spurs’ UEFA Conference League squad to play in the qualifier against Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday after being named in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad for the encounter.
All things considered, Kane will again take the lead attacking role along with his strike partner Son Heung-min against Wolverhampton Wanderers when the EPL fixture takes them to the Molineux Stadium to keep their great start to the season going. That is if City continues to delay in making a move for the striker before then.
For now, Kane remains a Spurs player and the position of the north London outfit to keep him is unlikely to soften before the end of the transfer window. So far, they have already dismissed a £100m City enquiry as club President Daniel Levy retains his belief that his prized asset is not available at any price for any club.
But, the Etihad club is stubborn. They have begun plotting a second bid in the region of £130m, even if it may likely take at least £150m for Spurs to begin thinking about letting Kane go. City’s loss against Spurs demonstrated to manager Pep Guardiola why he will need to secure Kane’s services to complete his squad.
Should Kane leave, Tottenham will turn to Son and Lucas Moura to push the forward line but will seek a move for Patrick Bamford of Leeds United as a stand in. That will cost them a pretty penny but with the windfall from selling Kane, they will have the cash to spare.
