September 02, (THEWILL) – Son Heung-min was the star of the show as Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to defeat Burnley 5-2 at Turf Moor on Saturday.
The South Korean forward netted a hat-trick to help Ange Postecoglou’s side claim their third win of the new English Premier League campaign. Burnley had taken an early lead through Lyle Foster, but Son equalised midway through the first half before goals from Cristian Romero and James Maddison put Spurs in control.
Son then took centre stage, scoring two goals in the space of just four minutes after the hour mark to put the game beyond doubt. There was a late consolation for the hosts from Josh Brownhill, but it did little to take the gloss off an impressive Tottenham performance. Son’s first goals since April illustrated his importance to Spurs’ frontline following the summer departure of Harry Kane.
After opening defeats to Manchester City and Aston Villa, this was another reality check for Vincent Kompany’s Burnley. Though they started brightly and led through Foster’s early strike, their high-risk playing style was ultimately their undoing as Spurs’ quality in attack shone through.
Tottenham now have 10 points from Ange Postecoglou’s first four league games in charge. With new signing Brennan Johnson also boosting their attacking ranks, there is a sense of optimism growing amongst the travelling Spurs fans. Burnley, meanwhile, remain without a point from their three home games back in the top-flight. They will hope for better times after the international break.
