March 26, (THEWILL) – Germany’s Kai Havertz and Nico Schlotterbeck have withdrawn from their country’s squad for Tuesday’s friendly against Belgium.
Havertz will miss the match due to illness, while Schlotterbeck has a thigh injury. Both players started in Germany’s 2-0 win over Peru on Saturday. The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed on Sunday that Havertz and Schlotterbeck had returned to their clubs.
Their withdrawal aside, Germany head coach Hansi Flick has decided not to call up any replacements for the friendly at RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne. He is confident of the personnel at his disposal to execute the friendly on their favour.
Belgium, who secured a 3-0 victory against Sweden in their opening Euro 2024 qualifier on Friday, will be without Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois due to a minor strain injury. It remains to be seen how the absence of Havertz and Schlotterbeck will impact Germany’s performance in the friendly against Belgium.
