March 11, (THEWILL) — Norwegian club, Bodo/Glimt, are firmly in control of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie after defeating Sporting CP 3-0 in the first leg at Aspmyra Stadion. Sondre Fet, Ole Didrik Blomberg and Kasper Hogh were on target for Kjetil Knutsen’s side.
Bodo pressed Sporting from the outset, with Jens Petter Hauge seeing a volley fly narrowly wide in the eighth minute from Hakon Evjen’s cross. Evjen tested Sporting goalkeeper Rui Silva shortly afterwards, only for the stopper’s save to release Trincao on the counter, and Luis Guilherme ultimately could not find the net when through on Bodo goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.
The home side took the lead in the 32nd minute when Georgios Vagiannidis fouled Fet inside the penalty area, and the midfielder converted the resulting spot-kick with composure. Bodo doubled their advantage in first-half stoppage time when a deflected pass from Hauge fell kindly to Blomberg, who finished into the bottom-right corner.
Sporting showed more intent after the interval and Luis Suarez forced a save from Haikin at his near post, yet the Portuguese club could not reduce the deficit. Hogh settled matters in the 71st minute, meeting a Hauge cross from the left to finish between Nuno Santos and Goncalo Inacio.
Bodo/Glimt will carry a three-goal advantage into the second leg, placing Knutsen’s side in a strong position to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
