Hollywood Actress Catherine O’Hara’s Cause Of Death Confirmed

February 10, (THEWILL) — Award-winning Hollywood actress Catherine O’Hara’s cause of death has been confirmed.

The Canadian-American star, best known for her roles in ‘Home Alone’ and ‘Schitt’s Creek’, died on January 30, 2026, at the age of 71.

According to a death certificate released by Los Angeles County authorities on Monday, O’Hara died from a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in the lungs. Rectal cancer was listed as the underlying long-term cause of death.

The certificate stated that O’Hara had been receiving cancer treatment since March 2025. Her oncologist last saw her shortly before her death.

She was pronounced dead at a hospital in Santa Monica, California, after falling ill at her Los Angeles home.

O’Hara enjoyed a long and successful career in film and television. She won an Emmy Award for her role as Moira Rose on ‘Schitt’s Creek’ and was widely known for playing Kate McCallister, Kevin’s mother, in the first two ‘Home Alone’ films.
