December 15, (THEWILL) — Hollywood filmmaker and actor, Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead on Sunday, December 14, inside their Brentwood, Los Angeles home.
Emergency services were called to the residence at approximately 3:30 p.m., where first responders discovered a man and a woman deceased.
Authorities later confirmed the victims were Rob and Michele Reiner.
A family spokesperson confirmed the deaths in a statement saying:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
The Los Angeles Police Department has opened a homicide investigation but has not released details regarding the cause of death, possible weapons, or any injuries sustained. No arrests have been announced.
The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Reiner, 78, was one of Hollywood’s most influential directors and performers.
He received two Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the sitcom All in the Family and later earned an Academy Award nomination as a producer of A Few Good Men.
He also directed films including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, and Misery.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
