November 10, (THEWILL) – Undefeated IBF welterweight champion, Jaron Ennis, retained his title through a comprehensive points victory against Karen Chukhadzhian at the Wells Fargo Centre, Philadelphia.
The American boxer dominated the rematch of their 2023 contest with superior punch output and ring control throughout the 12 rounds.
The defending champion demonstrated his power in round five, landing a precise three-punch combination that forced his Ukrainian challenger to take a knee. Despite this setback, Chukhadzhian displayed remarkable determination, continuing to challenge the champion and creating moments of success, particularly in the eighth round with a combination that momentarily tested Ennis.
The judges’ scorecards reflected the champion’s control of the bout, with margins of 119-107, 117-109, and 116-110 all favouring Ennis.
This victory extends his professional record to an impressive 33 wins with zero losses, including 29 victories by knockout.
Following his successful defence, Ennis indicated his intention to move up in weight classification.
“I think it might be time to go to ’54.
“I felt good but I feel like at ’54 I will be way better and my pop will be where it is supposed to be,”
the champion stated in his post-fight interview.
The potential move to junior middleweight (154 pounds) would present fresh opportunities for Ennis, who has dominated the welterweight division.
His technical proficiency and power-punching ability suggest he could become a significant force in the higher weight class.
