October 6, (THEWILL) – Due to a wrist injury, Britain’s Emma Raducanu, has withdrawn from the Transylvania Open.
In the opening round of the Ostrava Open on Tuesday, Raducanu, who has struggled with injuries all through this year’s ATP Tours, fell to Daria Kasatkina. The 19-year-old had planned to return right away to the court in Romania, the country of her father’s birth, but she has since withdrawn from the WTA 250 competition that will commence on October 8.
In a statement from the tournament, the announcement read: “Unfortunately, Emma will not be with us at this edition of the Transylvania Open, due to an injury. We know that many fans wanted to see the player with Romanian origins on the court, and we would have liked to offer them this experience.
“However, tennis is unpredictable, and in such situations the only solution is recovery. We wish Emma the best of health and get back on the field as soon as possible.”
Despite making it to her first semi-final since her incredible run to the US Open championship in 2021, Raducanu retired due to an injury in the third set when she trailed Jelena Ostapenko. She now has to work quickly to be healthy for the Guadalajara Open, which begins on October 17 and is anticipated to be her last competition of the year, with her ranking dropping as low as 67th.
