November 10, (THEWILL) — Inter Milan climbed to the summit of Serie A following a convincing 2-0 victory over Lazio at San Siro. Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Ange-Yoan Bonny gave Cristian Chivu’s side all three points in a match they controlled from start to finish.
Martinez opened the scoring after just three minutes, firing a superb first-time effort into the top-right corner with Lazio’s defence offering minimal resistance.
The hosts continued to press, with Petar Sucic sending a volley wide following a counter-attack orchestrated by Nicolo Barella. Mattia Zaccagni wasted Lazio’s best opportunity of the opening period, sending his shot over the bar.
The second goal arrived in the 61st minute when Federico Dimarco set up Bonny to finish from close range into an unguarded net.
Matteo Guendouzi had earlier tested Yann Sommer with a low drive, but Lazio struggled to create clear-cut chances throughout.
Inter thought they had added a third when Piotr Zielinski found the bottom-right corner six minutes later, but VAR intervened to disallow the goal after detecting a handball by Dimarco in the build-up.
The decision prevented the scoreline from reflecting Inter’s dominance more emphatically.
Lazio mounted a late rally, with Mario Gila’s header striking the underside of the crossbar before bouncing clear.
Sommer then denied Luca Pellegrini in the closing stages to preserve the clean sheet and confirm Inter’s place at the top of the table.
