May 19, (THEWILL)- Denzel Dumfries scored a dramatic 87th minute equaliser as Inter Milan salvaged a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Lazio at the San Siro on Sunday.
The Dutch wing-back’s towering header denied Lazio a seventh consecutive Serie A win as the visitors saw their hopes of booking European football take a blow.
Inter had been poised to lift the Scudetto trophy after the match before Daichi Kamada’s first-half strike silenced the home crowd. The Japan international swept home from the edge of the area to give Lazio a deserved lead after some sloppy play from the Nerazzurri.
Despite rallies from Inter after the break, including Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez hitting the woodwork, it seemed Lazio would hold on before Dumfries met Federico Dimarco’s cross to power a header past Ivan Provedel.
The late drama prevented Lazio from confirming a top-seven finish and capped a disappointing day for Igor Tudor’s side, who had looked on course for a huge three points in their bid for Europa League qualification.
