June 18 (THEWILL) — Irish broadcaster Graham Norton has secured a U.S. court order allowing him to get information from Meta to identify the person behind a Facebook page accused of spreading false claims about him.
A court in California granted Norton permission to request records from Meta relating to a Facebook account called “The Westminster Wire”, which he says has been targeting him since December 2025.
Court documents say the page shared fabricated stories and AI-generated images falsely linking Norton to racist, xenophobic, and anti-immigrant views.
Other posts reportedly included false claims about his health, personal life, and fake reports that family members had died.
Norton said the posts were “almost entirely false” and had caused “very significant alarm, distress, and anxiety” for him and those close to him.
He revealed that some of the false reports were seen by his 94-year-old mother, including a post that wrongly claimed she had died.
The presenter also told the court that he had never made any of the statements attributed to him and said the posts had damaged his reputation and could harm his career.
Norton plans to take legal action in England once the person behind the account is identified. He also said Meta had been asked to remove the page, but it remained active.
The presenter, best known for hosting “The Graham Norton Show,” said his reputation is central to his work as a broadcaster and public figure.
The legal action comes amid ongoing concerns from public figures about false and misleading content circulating on social media.
