March 07, (THEWILL) – Pete Edochie, one of the most revered veterans in the movie industry is 75 years old. Encomiums have been pouring in for the legendary actor who is considered one of the most talented actors in Nigeria.
Speaking on how it feels to be 75, he stated “I have heard people say that age is just a number, anybody saying that should subject himself for psychiatric evaluation because as you age you will feel it within yourself, but you try as much as possible not to allow it wear you down.
“I want to start by thanking God for coming this far, many of my colleagues who started with me are no longer there. May their souls rest in peace. It is not easy being 75, you have all types of medical challenges but you just have to keep on moving.”
Having paid his dues in the industry, Edochie was honoured with the Industry Merit Award by Africa Magic in 2020 and a Lifetime Achievement by Africa Film Academy in 2020. Though a seasoned administrator and broadcaster, he launched into prominence after playing the role of Okonkwo in the adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s novel, Things Fall Apart. He was honoured by the British Broadcasting Corporation who flew into Nigeria to interview him for that role. The veteran actor has featured in both English and Igbo movies.
