March 07, (THEWILL) – English forward Marcus Rashford is pondering his future at Manchester United after failing to secure a regular starting spot especially under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Rashford has appeared in 18 Premier League games this season, but just nine of them have been as part of the Red Devils’ starting XI, and only two of them have occurred in 2022.
With United having no other senior attackers available, he was anticipated to start Sunday’s Manchester derby in the absence of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani, but Rangnick chose to deploy Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba as two false nines instead.
Rashford has grown disgruntled under Rangnick, according to sources, and thinks that the German, whose influence at the club will continue in a consultancy capacity once his interim time in the dugout ends this summer, does not see a future for him at the club.
The 24-year-old is concerned about his lack of playing time, and while he has not made a fuss about it, he wants to speak with the club’s management to see if he still has a first-team future in Manchester.
Importantly, Rashford is willing to wait to see who succeeds Rangnick as manager and will question the next boss about his plans, but he is anxious about the current situation.
West Ham United, Arsenal, and Newcastle United are all monitoring the situation, while Atletico Madrid has expressed interest in the 24-year-old.
Rashford’s deal will expire in the summer of 2023, although United has the option to extend it for another year.
However, Rangnick promised in the build-up to the game that he would continue to work with Rashford to help him reach his full potential.
“With Marcus Rashford, we have another player who I will insist and continuously be behind him and with him, to develop him,” Rangnick said.
“We have achieved that with quite a few other young players in the past and I don’t see why this should not happen with Marcus.
“He’s got abundant talent, he’s got the pace, he’s got the physicality, he’s got everything that you need for a modern striker, no matter if he’s playing from the wing or in the centre.
“I will put all my energy into that, to help him to take the same pathway that other players did in the last three months.”
