July 18, (THEWILL) – Seko Fofana has completed a move to Saudi Pro League side, Al Nassr, from RC Lens of Ligue 1, signing a contract that will keep him at the Cristiano Ronaldo unit until 2026.
Although the financial details of the transfer were not disclosed, French media reports suggest that the transfer fee amounted to approximately $28.10 million. Al Nassr announced the signing on their official Twitter account, expressing their well wishes for the Ivory Coast midfielder.
The 28-year-old joined Lens in 2020 and made a significant impact during his time with the club. He scored 21 goals and provided 11 assists in 112 appearances, playing a vital role in securing Lens’ place in the French top flight. Reflecting on Fofana’s contributions, Arnaud Pouille, Lens’ Managing Director, praised the midfielder for his commitment to the club’s growth: “Seko arrived when the club was freshly promoted with this ambition to help it regain its influence and the continental scene. Everyone at the club says thank you and shows their respect for what has been achieved.”
Fofana’s move to Al Nassr adds to the growing list of European players joining the Saudi Pro League club. He will join the ranks of notable names such as Ronaldo, Marcelo Brozovic, Ghislain Konan, and David Ospina. Al Nassr was recently banned from registering new players due to outstanding debts. However, FIFA confirmed that the ban would be lifted once the club settled a sum of 460,000 euros ($516,948) owed to Leicester City for the signing of Nigerian attacker, Ahmed Musa.
The addition of Fofana suggests that they have resolved that issue and the Ivorian’s signing further strengthens Al Nassr’s squad as they aim to challenge for top honours in the upcoming season.
