July 18, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain received a mixed update on their squad as Brazilian forward, Neymar Jn., returned to training following his recovery from a right ankle surgery, while Portugal left-back, Nuno Mendes, suffered a setback.
The French champions confirmed that the 21-year-old Mendes ruptured a tendon in his right hamstring, extending his spell on the sidelines. He had already been nursing a thigh injury sustained in May. However, Neymar, who participated in individual training last week, is set to gradually rejoin collective training sessions this week, marking a positive step in his rehabilitation.
PSG stated that Mendes would continue receiving treatment over the next few weeks due to his hamstring injury. The left-back’s troubles come as a blow to the team, as he looks to fully recover and regain his fitness. Meanwhile, Neymar’s return to training is an encouraging development for the Parisian club. After undergoing surgery on his right ankle in March, the 31-year-old Brazilian forward is progressing well and is expected to gradually reintegrate into collective training sessions in the coming days.
In preparation for the new season, the PSG squad underwent physical and medical tests before participating in group training at the PSG Campus in Poissy, located in the western suburbs of Paris. However, Italian midfielder, Cher Ndour, recently crowned European U19 champion, was given a rest to recharge after his exertions. Additionally, French World Cup winner, Presnel Kimpembe, continues his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury, with his return anticipated in early August.
