Iyabo Ojo Steps Back From Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham Dispute

Funke-Akindele--Toyin-Abraham-Iyabo Ojo

March 31, (THEWILL) — Iyabo Ojo has said she will no longer mediate in the rift between Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.

She shared this in a post on Instagram on Tuesday, where she responded to criticism and explained her role in trying to settle the issue.

“For those of you maligning my character, insulting me, and calling me unprintable names, this is for you!! Now, I need to set the record straight. This is the first and last time I will be talking about anything like this……”

Ojo said she has known Akindele for years, although they had disagreements in the past.

“Funke and I have been friends for the longest, but there were times we fell out… I once came online to drag Funke because of Toyin’s movie. That was a wrong move on my part; I should have handled it better.”

She added that she and Akindele later reconciled, and she made efforts to settle the dispute between Abraham and Akindele, even pleading with them to make peace. According to her, both agreed to avoid public conflict and handle issues privately.

However, she said the agreement broke down in December, leading to fresh tension.

“…but unfortunately, Dec came, Toyin made some complaints about her movie in cinemas, claiming some people or person was trying to sabotage her, some fans pointed accusing fingers towards Funke, which sparked up a fresh beef.”

Ojo also addressed her film, “The Return of Arinzo”, stating that Abraham was originally part of the project but withdrew at the last minute, forcing changes to the production.

“Toyin was supposed to be in it, but she said she was exhausted, and she also had to travel, so she pulled out last minute, I was upset because it cost me a lot to rewrite the story, but the show must go on… She apologised, we made up, and the rest is history.”

Despite her efforts, Ojo said she has now stepped back from the situation, noting that she has done her part and no longer wants to be involved.

“The Return of Arinzo” will be released in cinemas nationwide from April 3.

The post comes after a viral video from a recent premiere showed a moment where Akindele appeared to ignore Abraham’s greeting, sparking widespread reactions online.
