August 22, (THEWILL) — American rapper and business mogul, Shawn Carter, popularly known as Jay-Z, has been ranked the world’s richest musician with an estimated net worth of $2.5bn, according to Forbes.
The bulk of his fortune comes from ventures outside music, including his entertainment company, Roc Nation; luxury champagne brand, Armand de Brignac (Ace of Spades); and cognac label, D’Ussé.
He also reaped huge returns from the sale of his stakes in music streaming platform, Tidal, and the fashion label, Rocawear.
Beyond entertainment and fashion, Jay-Z’s portfolio cuts across real estate, tech startups, and the hospitality sector, further cementing his billionaire status.
Forbes also noted that Taylor Swift maintained her place as the world’s richest female musician with an estimated net worth of $1.6bn.
She is the first artist to achieve billionaire status solely from music sales and live performances.
