November 16, (THEWILL) — New York Jets defensive back Kris Boyd remains in critical but stable condition following a shooting incident in Midtown Manhattan during the early hours of Sunday morning. The 29-year-old sustained an abdominal wound and received treatment at Bellevue Hospital after the attack.
The New York City Police Department confirmed that officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 2 a.m. on West 38th Street. Whilst police did not officially name the victim, the New York Post identified Boyd. Emergency services transported the injured man to the hospital, where his condition was later confirmed.
Authorities have made no arrests in connection with the incident. West 38th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway remained shut to both vehicles and pedestrians following the shooting.
The Jets organisation released a brief statement acknowledging awareness of the situation but declined further comment. The team were not scheduled to play on Sunday, having suffered defeat against the New England Patriots on Thursday evening.
Boyd joined the Jets on a one-year contract in March but has been sidelined on injured reserve since sustaining an injury during training camp. The cornerback previously played for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans during his professional career.
