April 01, (THEWILL) – Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest played out an intense 1-1 draw at the City Ground, with both teams sharing the spoils in their fight against relegation.
Daniel Podence found the back of the net in the dying minutes of the game to cancel out Brennan Johnson’s opener for Forest. Podence showed his class by opening up his body and curling the ball past Keylor Navas.
Johnson had given Forest the lead in the first half, finishing from a difficult angle and threading the ball through the legs of Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa after Danilo’s pass. The game turned controversial in the second half when both teams saw their assistant head coach sent off from the dugout. Wolves’ Pablo Sanz and Forest’s Alan Tate were dismissed after the visitors appealed for a penalty when Adama Traore went down in the box.
The match was not without other heated moments, with Johnson accusing Podence of spitting in his direction in the closing stages. However, the VAR check found no wrongdoing, and the game ended in a draw with Taiwo Awoniyi getting only about four minutes of play under his belt.
The result leaves Wolves and Forest hovering just above the relegation zone in the Premier League, with both teams needing to find their form to avoid the drop. Leeds play Forest on Tuesday and Wolves host Chelsea.
