April 01, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Amex Stadium, with Alexis Mac Allister scoring a last-minute penalty to secure a point for the home side.
Brentford took the lead twice in a frenetic first half, but Brighton fought back to level the score each time. Ethan Pinnock put the Bees in front again early in the second half, only for Mac Allister to convert from the spot after Aaron Hickey handled the ball in the box.
The game got off to an electric start when Pontus Jansson headed in Mathias Jensen’s cross to give Brentford the lead after just 10 minutes. However, Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma responded just 11 minutes later, racing onto a long ball from goalkeeper Jason Steele and calmly slotting the ball past David Raya. The Bees regained the lead within 90 seconds through Ivan Toney’s 17th league goal of the season, but Danny Welbeck equalised for the Seagulls just before the half-hour mark.
The second half continued in the same vein, with both sides pushing for a winner. Pinnock put Brentford ahead again with a tap-in from Bryan Mbeumo’s free-kick, but Brighton refused to give up and poured forward in search of an equaliser. Lewis Dunk had a chance to level the score but headed over, before Hickey’s handball gave Mac Allister the chance to secure a draw for the Seagulls.
Despite Brighton’s protests for a second penalty in stoppage time, the game ended in a hard-fought 3-3 draw. In their next fixtures, Brighton are away to Bournemouth on Tuesday with Brentford also on the road against Manchester United the following day.
