March 20, (THEWILL) – Juventus clinched a vital victory over Inter Milan in their latest Serie A fixture, with Filip Kostic scoring the decisive goal in the first half.
The Bianconeri had a slow start to the season, but have now won six of their last seven matches in the league. Inter, on the other hand, have suffered their third defeat in four games, putting another dent on their hopes of catching up with runaway leaders Napoli.
The game was not without controversy, as a lengthy VAR review was conducted to check for a suspected handball in the build-up to Kostic’s goal. The decision ultimately went in Juve’s favour, with the goal allowed to stand.
Kostic’s goal was the difference in a tightly contested game, with Inter unable to find a way past Juve’s resolute defence. Despite being four places below their opponents on the table, the visitors completed the double over Inter for the first time since the 2019/2020 campaign.
After the match, tensions boiled over between the two sides, resulting in Leandro Paredes and Danilo D’Ambrosio both receiving red cards for their involvement in a scuffle. The result sees Juventus move within nine points of Inter in the standings. Both sides will return to Serie A action on April 1, after the international break. Inter Milan will host Fiorentina while Juventus will welcome Hellas Verona to the Allianz Stadium.
