January 06, (THEWILL) – Kamaru Usman, the UFC welterweight champion, is dedicatedly invested in helping to grow the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) in his home country and has taken that determination to the next level.
The Nigerian-born champion was in Lagos, the West African country’s commercial capital, to assist in organising Nigeria’s first ever official MMA event tagged “Face Off Fight Night 1”. The event is billed to take place on January 7 at the Lagos Continental Hotel in Victoria Island.
In a serialised set of videos on YouTube titled Anatomy of a Fighter’s “Motherland Diaries”, the UFC champion is chronicling the steps he is taking to make the MMA a household sports staple in the most populous black nation in the world.
Episode 1 of the “Motherland Diaries” series sees Usman discussing the details of the “Face Off Fight Night” event with his business partners.
He then raises the heat a notch higher as he exhibits some of the flair that has taken him to the top of his game and seen him defend his title against the best in the business as he throws some punches in a workout despite currently healing from a broken hand suffered prior to his most recent title defence against Colby Covington at UFC 268.
