January 06, (THEWILL) – During the Golden State Warriors’ 99-82 away loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, superstar Stephen Curry suffered a left quad contusion.
Following the loss, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr informed reporters that “there’s a chance” he will be rested for Thursday’s road game against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Curry scored 14 points on 5-of-24 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds in 36 minutes on Wednesday.
THEWILL recalls that Curry was injured in a collision with teammate All-Star guard James Harden on November 16 against the Brooklyn Nets, resulting in a hip injury. He sat out the following night against the Detroit Pistons, his first absence of the 2021/2022 NBA season, after playing two days earlier against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In his post-match comments on Wednesday, Curry told reporters: “I’ll get an assessment. That charge really messed with me a little bit, so I’m just trying to deal with that a little bit.”
The 33-year-old has been on fire recently. Through 35 appearances, he has averaged 26.8 points, 6.1 assists, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 three-pointers, and 1.4 steals.
If Curry is injured, Gary Payton II might get the start at point guard. Damion Lee and Chris Chiozza will get increased playing time in the Dubs’ backcourt rotation as a result.
This season, Golden State’s depth players have contributed significantly, and the group will be called upon even more when any of the team’s studs are unavailable. They have the ability to temporarily fill a void and keep the team challenging.
