July 07, (THEWILL) – Kenyan runner, Faith Kipyegon, set a new world record in the women’s 1500m at the Paris Diamond League meet on Sunday.
She clocked three minutes 49.04 seconds, beating her own previous record by 0.07 seconds. This performance comes just weeks before the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Kipyegon will aim to defend her title.
The 30-year-old athlete led from the start, guided by two pacemakers. Her strong run at Stade Charlety improved upon her previous best time set in Florence in June 2023. Kipyegon, already a two-time Olympic 1500m champion with three world titles, looks to be in top form for the upcoming Games.
Australian Jessica Hull finished second with an Oceania record of 3:50.83, while Britain’s Laura Muir took third place with a national record of 3:53.79. The top eight athletes all achieved personal bests in the race, highlighting the high level of competition.
