March 11, (THEWILL) — Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has raised concerns about the rising cost of diesel, saying it is putting pressure on his businesses.
Afolayan shared the update in a video posted on his Instagram page. He said the high cost of diesel is affecting the operations of his businesses, including KAP Film Village and Resort, which spends about ₦11 million on diesel every four to five weeks.
“I’ve been sad because I can’t cope with the ₦1,500 per litre of diesel. In one of the businesses that we run, the KAP Village, we spend about ₦11 million in four or five weeks on diesel. And we have solar power, but we’re still spending about ₦11 million.”
According to him, they sometimes buy diesel on credit to keep operations running.
He said payments are made gradually when the business earns income, and it can take up to two months to settle the bills before purchasing more fuel.
Afolayan noted that diesel, which used to cost around ₦995 to ₦1,000 per litre, has now risen to about ₦1,500, making it difficult for businesses to cope.
He added that he is seeking support to upgrade the solar power system at the facility so the business can rely less on diesel.
“If you can come to our aid, I’ll really appreciate it”, he said.
His comments come as many businesses in Nigeria continue to face rising energy costs due to unstable electricity supply
