June 28, (THEWILL) – In his tasking first-round Wimbledon match on Tuesday, Nick Kyrgios did not get many chances against local favourite Paul Jubb, but as soon as the Australian did, he seized the opportunity to win 3-6 6-1 7-5 6-7(3) 7-5.

At the All-England Club, Kyrgios converted five of his six break points to progress into the next round where the number 40 player in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings is going to face either 26th seed Filip Krajinovic or Czech Jiri Lehecka.

It is a continuation of Kyrgios’s impressive run. The 27-year-old is currently 10-3 in five-set matches, including 5-0 at Wimbledon. This season, he has not suffered a first-round defeat (8-0). Despite missing a chance to serve for the match at 5-3 in the deciding set, Kyrgios quickly recovered to win the match after three hours and five minutes with the help of 30 aces and 67 total winners.

Jubb, who only made two of his 13 break points, broke back in the fifth with the crowd’s full support. Kyrgios was upset, but he managed to maintain his composure and hang on. After squandering his first match point by hitting a backhand return long, he made careful to put his subsequent return in play, and Jubb missed a first-ball forehand to hand victory to Kyrgios.
