La liga

March 23, (THEWILL) – Despite a 2-1 loss in the Classico match against Barcelona on Sunday, La Liga filed an eighth complaint against racist abuse aimed at Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Junior.

The incident occurred during the game, and the complaint was filed with the Barcelona Court of Instruction.

The victory, which saw Franck Kessie score the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute, extended Barcelona’s lead over Madrid to 12 points. However, the match was overshadowed by the racial abuse directed towards Vinicius, who has been the target of racism in the past.

This is the latest incident of La Liga taking action against racism in football, especially targeted at the Brazilian in the Spanish top flight. Earlier this week, Mallorca banned a fan for three years for making racist remarks towards Vinicius and Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze.

THEWILL also recalls that in February, Real Valladolid also suspended 12 season ticket holders for abusive behaviour towards Vinicius during a league match two months earlier.
